In the early days of reform and opening up, the Ouhai glasses industry gradually developed from a family workshop into an industrial system of social division of labor, large-scale support, and one-stop cooperation, forming an industrial chain of glasses and related supporting production. In August 2002, the Ouhai Glasses Industry Association was formally established, marking the road to large-scale development of the Ouhai glasses industry. In the late 1970s, some Ouhai people who dared to start a business began to manufacture some low-end glasses in their own homes or rented houses. Since the 1990s, our district has made full use of its location advantages and preferential conditions to attract eyewear companies from other counties to settle in Ouhai in Xinqiao Gaoxiang Industrial Zone and Ouhai Economic Development Zone, and gradually formed a large-scale development. In 1993, European Optics, one of the largest eyewear companies in Europe, came to Cai Ou in Wenzhou. This event historically subverted the way of life of the Ouhai eyewear industry at that time. Since then, Ouhai Glasses has opened the door for export. Since then, more and more international businessmen have come to China to purchase, and the Wenzhou optical industry has begun to transform into OEM processing. Ouhai glasses have become famous for their low price and high quality, and become one of the six pillar industries in our district.
Rapid development period: With China's entry into the WTO, Ouhai glasses industry has ushered in its own rapid development period, forming an industrial cluster with more than 500 glasses enterprises. On August 9, 2002, the Ouhai District Optical Industry Association was established, and formulated industry production standards to promote exchanges, cooperation and standardized development between industries. On January 28, 2003, Ouhai was awarded the honorary title of "China Glasses Production Base" by China National Light Industry Federation. On June 18, 2004, the district government held the "Symposium on Construction of Industrial Parks in the District and Signing Ceremony for Newly Entered Enterprises" at the General Hotel. At the meeting, 37 optical companies signed contracts to enter the park. In 2005, the construction of Louqiao Optical Industrial Park in Ouhai Economic Development Zone started, which marked the coming of a new era of industrial cluster development, and further established Ouhai's status as a "China Optical Production Base" in the whole country.

In September 2008, the global financial crisis occurred, and the Ouhai glasses industry, which relies heavily on foreign trade exports, was hit hard, and the Ouhai glasses industry suffered from a low valley and turbulent period. In September 2011, Wenzhou Xintai Group, known as the "King of Glasses" in the industry, stopped production due to the company's financial difficulties. Affected by the breakage of the capital chain, many optical companies in Ouhai have stopped production, the Ouhai optical industry is in a low period, and its confidence in development has been setback.

After 2012, in order to revive the development of the industry, the association actively visited enterprises, responded to the demands of the industry, and led the transformation and upgrading of member enterprises through a series of measures such as building regional brands. With the concerted efforts of the government-enterprise association, the Ouhai glasses industry has stepped out of the trough and revitalized its development. The annual output value has grown at a rate of more than 15%, achieving a contrarian development. As Ouhai glasses base has become a professional demonstration base for national foreign trade transformation and upgrading, Ouhai glasses industry has once again become a leading pillar industry. Mainly reflected in: shaping regional brands, realizing transformation and upgrading, and boosting development against the trend. On November 22, 2010, the association applied to the State Administration for Industry and Commerce for registration of "Ouhai District Optical Industry Association Collective Trademark", and the registration was officially approved on February 21, 2012. This is a milestone event in our optical industry, which will lay a solid foundation for the optical industry in our region to exert its collective advantages, enhance the core competitiveness of products, and build a regional brand. At the same time, Ouhai Glasses Base was rated as "National Foreign Trade Transformation and Upgrading Export Demonstration Base" in 2013. In 2017, it was approved to establish a national-level glasses product quality improvement demonstration area. In 2018, it successfully created a provincial-level export glasses product quality and safety demonstration. In 2019, "Ouhai Glasses" was approved as a National Geographical Trademark, which has become a guarantee of high-end quality and excellent reputation.

In 2017, in order to transform and upgrade the glasses industry, relying on Louqiao Glasses Industrial Park (China Glasses Production Base), it began to build China (Ouhai) Glasses Town. The town is located in the south of the central area of Ouhai, adjacent to the Louqiao exit of Jinli-Wenzhou Expressway in the north, and Wenzhou South Station of the bullet train in the west. The total area of the town is 3.9 square kilometers, of which the core area is 1.05 square kilometers. A town with industrial characteristics. The two brand streets of Jiguang Road and Haoxin Road in the town adopt the "front shop and back factory" production mode of industry and trade integration and the "B2B and B2C" wholesale and retail integration sales method to transform the glasses industry from production, distribution to terminal retail. The resources of Ouhai have been fully integrated, which has broken the sales barriers in time and space, and has innovated and opened up a new way to solve the crux of the weak brand of Ouhai glasses, which has greatly shortened the supply chain of glasses products. Today, the industrial agglomeration effect of the glasses town is emerging, and a new industrial kinetic energy is converging and generating, Ouhai glasses, the future has come.
